What is the difference between basic statistics and research and the courses in the Research Sequence? What course content is required?
Basic statistics courses introduce the fundamental concepts of conducting scientific inquiry and present techniques used to describe and analyze data. It is necessary to have a sound understanding of the following concepts and operations before beginning the D.P. T. Bridge research courses: probability, binomial, normal distributions, sample statistics, statistical hypotheses, linear regression, and correlation. The first course in the D.P.T. Bridge program will help you understand how data are acquired from a survey and how they are managed and analyzed. Without a strong foundation in principles of research and basic statistical analysis, a student would have a very difficult time completing these two courses. The second course is a Research Seminar. In the online version of this course, students design their own research project (which they may or may not actually carry out). In the campus version of the course, students work in small groups performing a systematic review of the literatu
