Version 2 does not replace version 1. Rather, a mix of Version 1 and Version 2 will continue to be supported on the same system to provide a balance between functionality and cost. Basic Router Pod Version 2 is designed to support more labs (both CCNA and CCNP) and provide greater functionality. This comes with the added expense of third party virtualization software and dual-Ethernet routers. Basic Router Pod Version 1 supports fewer lab activities and is somewhat limited to CCNA. There are fewer requirements so the cost of implementation may be less.
