What is the difference between Bas Relief and Flat Relief?
Bas Relief is technically a half three dimensional moulding. The back is essentially flat and the face is in bas relief. Bas relief emblems and designs are created by sculptors who fashion these replicas in moulders clay. We create patterns from these moulds and use them to create plaques with emblems included in the casting. (Picture of Bas Emblems) Flat Relief is generated by computer imaging and is technically two dimensional. Patterns for flat relief images are generated by our graphic artists in the line art. The detail is cast as a series of lines with vertical size and the relief is the same all over. There are no curves or rounded surfaces.
