There are two type of “name servers” that make up the DNS system: authoritative name servers and recursive name servers. Authoritative name servers are used by domain owners. Recursive name servers are used by some web surfers (through services like Google DNS and Open DNS). To use CloudFlare you need to change your domain’s authoritative DNS servers, you can continue to use whatever recursive DNS server you want.
