what is the difference between assisted-gps on the new windows mobile cell phones and normal gps?
Many phones (not just Windows Mobile models) can use assisted GPS. Effectively, it’s using the phone’s data connection to the cellular towers to make an educated guess as to your position through triangulation and other techniques. It’s not as accurate as a real GPS receiver, but it’s usually close enough and it works where real GPS might not work due to the satellite being blocked. Even phones with real GPS sometimes have assisted GPS, since it can help speed up the satellite fix or provide just enough positioning info to keep track while you pass through a tunnel or in a maze of skyscrapers.
