What is the difference between Assisted and Unassisted home schooling?
Assisted families have chosen to enroll in the Des Moines Home Instruction Program. This program provides families with a certified visiting teacher, free annual standardized testing (ITBS, ITED, Stanford Achievement Test, etc.) official school records and transcripts, evaluations, and the optional use of school district curriculum. The Des Moines Home Instruction Program also offers field trips, group activities and access to teaching resources Unassisted families have chosen to home school their children independently. The family must first complete, in duplicate, the state form referred to as a Form A. This form is filed with the school district of residence. They may hire a licensed teacher to verify adequate progress through a portfolio evaluation or pay a fee for standardized testing. The unassisted child may also enroll in an unaccredited non-public school and receive instruction from a licensed teacher. It is then the school’s responsibility to file a Form A with the local publ
