What is the difference between art and propaganda in Christian music video?
The place that we can best draw our inspiration is from the Bible and specifically from the teachings of Jesus, who is the master communicator. Jesus allowed people to participate… He allowed them to use their own minds to figure things out. That’s a very indirect way of communicating–and most of the time, people didn’t understand Him–even his disciples didn’t understand. And when they’d ask Him to explain His parables, sometimes He would explain and sometimes He wouldn’t explain. He realized the value of people using their own heads to figure things out. I think that may be the place to draw the line between art and propaganda. Propaganda insults our intelligence. It usually doesn’t teach us anything that we don’t already know. It oftentimes plays fast and loose with the facts, and it doesn’t allow people to use their own minds to enter into things.
