What is the difference between APEX Block and ICFs?

0

APEX Block is a lightweight insulated concrete block made from 100% recycled expanded polystyrene (EPS) and cement. Our blocks incorporate a “screen-grid/post and beam” design with 6 inch reinforced horizontal and vertical grout channels. APEX Blocks are similar in structural concept and building methods to that of a concrete block/(CMU), however, you do not mortar between blocks and APEX walls require over 60% LESS grout than CMU’s and up to three (3) LESS than ICFs. The cement used in our materials mix gives our block its’ gray color. Insulated concrete forms (ICFs) are made from manufactured vs. recycled polystyrene (EPS or XPS). The forms can be flat wall, waffle grid or screen grid design. Most ICFs require pre-assembly, “ties”, “webs” and/or “connectors”, special tools, special shoring/ bracing/scaffolding equipment, and can be susceptible to wall movements during the pour because of their lightweight and/or wind gusts.
