What is the difference between an RM02 and an RM03?

0

Both the RM02 and the RM03 are based on the CDC 9762 chassis. For most purposes they are identical. The media are interchangeable and the internal Massbus adapters are the same. The only practical difference is that the RM02 rotates at 2400 RPM and the RM03 rotates at 3600 RPM. You can make either type of drive look like the other to a Massbus controller by changing a single jumper in the drive’s internal Massbus adapter. However, they are not always interchangeable; see the FAQ below The RM03 was sold into the high-speed Massbus market; 11/70s with RH70 controllers and VAXes with RH780 controllers. The RM02 was sold into the lower speed market of Unibus-only machines with RH11 controllers.
