What is the difference between an RD and an LD?

0

Being a registered dietitian (RD) is a nationally recognized credential, whereas licensure, i.e. being a licensed dietitian (LD), is state specific. In the state of Florida, everyone must be licensed in order to practice dietetics. In Florida, licensed dietitians are referred to as LD/N, licensed dietitian/nutritionist. If you are an RD, you can become a LD/N by paying an additional fee to the state. However, if you want to become a LD/N without being a RD, you must complete a specific number of supervised practice hours and sit for a state licensure exam (these practice hours and exam are not accredited by CADE).
