What is the difference between an official visit to a campus and an unofficial visit?
An official visit to a campus is where the college or university pays for you to visit the campus out of their athletic budget. In general, golf teams do not have huge recruiting budgets so chances are they will not have many official visits from prospects throughout the year. But coaches will have more prospects on campus than they intend to actually sign. For example, a coach might only have two spots to fill for the next year and four different players will be invited for an official visit. An unofficial visit is a visit to a campus that the university does not pay for. For example, if you and your family are in San Diego for vacation, it might be a good idea to plan to visit a few schools while you are there. It is important to call the coach before you arrive to let him/her know you will be in town and that you would love to meet with them.
