What is the difference between an IRA transfer and an IRA rollover?
A transfer moves your assets directly from one institution to another, in the same type of retirement account. For example, you can transfer Traditional IRA assets from another mutual fund family to an Ariel Investments Traditional IRA. A rollover moves your assets from an employer-sponsored retirement plan, such as a 401(k), 403(b) or 457 plan, to an Ariel Investments Rollover IRA. Both transfers and rollovers maintain the tax-advantaged status of your account. However, there are certain exceptions should you transfer assets from a Traditional IRA to a Roth IRA. Please download and review the IRA disclosure statement for more information.
