What is the difference between an extraneous variable and a confounding variable?
keeping things simple: an extraneous variable is one which is not part of the experimental situation: it is not being controlled like the independent and dependent variables. Now, a confouding variable is any thing that confuses the experimental results, and this might be something to do with the experiment or it might be a an extaneous variable.
