What is the difference between an elective prenatal ultrasound and a diagnostic ultrasound?
Before getting a 3D/4D ultrasound with us at Ultravisions, you must be under prenatal care of a physician or midwife and have had a previous diagnostic ultrasound. A diagnostic ultrasound is used to confirm the due date, to screen for fetal abnormalities and to diagnosis any pregnancy related concerns. A 3D/4D elective ultrasound is used for entertainment purposes. We do believe that seeing your baby and watching them move within the womb, does have its benefits. It helps create a strong bond between baby and parents and siblings. During your 3D/4Dultrasound we will identify the baby’s heartbeat, check fetal position, identify the sex (if desired), document the number of fetuses and obtain keepsake pictures that show your baby’s specific facial features. Please note, at no time is this exam to be used in lieu of diagnostic ultrasound.
