What is the Difference between an EBT exam and a CT Calcium Scoring exam?

0

Electron Beam Tomography (EBT) uses an EBT scanner, not a CT scanner for detection of calcification in coronary arteries. A calcium score is generated indicating the amount of calcium present. This procedure is not offered at VDIS- Olympic Building. Radiation is minimal. Physician referral not always needed. Identifies calcium deposits only, not soft and hard plaques, nor the inside (lumen) of the arteries. How it Works: The patient lies on the table and holds their breath for just a few seconds. The table moves through the open bagel-shaped EBT scanner. This is very similar, if not identical, to how the exam is with a CT Scanner.
