What is the difference between an “e-mail discussion group” or “intercessory prayer network” and an Internet mailing list?
“Mailing list” is an Internet term for a system in which e-mail sent to a single address is distributed to many people, facilitating discussion and rapid dissemination of news. Unfortunately, the term “mailing list” has quite a different meaning outside of the Internet, referring to postal mailings used by organizations to solicit money or support. In order to avoid confusion, we often call our Internet mailing lists “e-mail discussion groups” and “intercessory prayer networks” in order to clarify their purpose.
