An atheist does not believe that God exists. An agnostic believes that nothing is known, or can be known, of the existence or nature of God or a god or of anything beyond material phenomena. In sharing the message of salvation with one of either persuasion, the issue can be raised as to how either one knows there is no God or that one cannot know God. One would have to be all-knowing to hold either position, and all of us have limited knowledge. The point is the person doesnt actually know there is no God, or that God cannot be known; he or she is simply saying what they think.
