What is the difference between an Associate degree and a Bachelors degree?
An associate degree is a two-year degree granted by a community college to students who complete a specified program of study, usually totaling 90 units. A bachelor s degree (or baccalaureate) is a four-year degree granted upon completion of at least 124 semester units or 180 quarter units. Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science Degrees are offered by the California State Universities, the University of California and many private four-year colleges and universities.
An associate degree is a two-year diploma granted by a community college. At Palomar this includes a minimum of 18 units of GE, US History, Math and a multicultural couse totaling at least 60 units. Classes numbered 50-99+ can be used toward these 60 units. A bachelor degree is a four-year diploma granted upon completion of, on average, at least 124 semester units or 180 quarter units. Many students complete their first two years of the four year degree at Palomar.
