What is the difference between an agent, a personal manager, and a casting director?
An agent is franchised by one or more of the performer’s unions, and paid a fixed commission only after you have landed the job and been paid. A personal manager provides more comprehensive services than an agent, acting perhaps as a business manager, financial or legal advisor. They may collect a fee greater than agents, as they are not franchised by the performers’ unions. A manager may invest considerable time and money in your career, unlike an agent. A casting director is a casting consultant employed by studios, networks, advertising agencies, or producers, and is paid by these companies.
