What is the difference between allergic, anaphylactic, and Anaphylactoid Rnxs?
Anaphylactic reactions are actually severe allergic reactions and often manifest with more severe pulmonary involvement as compared to the more typical allergic reactions (itching, hives) and cardiovascular instability. Anaphylactic reactions and anaphylactoid reactions are typically clinically indistinguishable. However, immunologically, anti-E antibodies have been definitively associated with the reaction. If an anti-E etiology has not been proven, classify the more severe allergic reactions as: “anaphylactoid reactions”.
