What is the difference between AKC, UKC, API, and CKC?
The AKC is the only registry that requires DNA testing for breeding dogs. If a breeder says that Spot and Sally are the parents of a puppy, Spot and Sally better be the parents. If not, the AKC can and will fine them and possibly take away all AKC privilages. The API, CKC and The UKC do not do this. A breeder can say anyone is the parent and the registration process still goes on. Most breeders want only AKC registered dogs, that is unless they have already been banned from The AKC. The AKC also comes out and inspects paperwork and facilities unannounced. Personaly, I love what they do. If they pop in on you, and they see abuse, they not only take away your privilages, they also turn you in to the authorities. When they come here, I proudly show off my dogs. I am sometimes a little messy here, but always presentable. My dogs never live in filth or are neglected.
