What is the difference between acute bronchitis to chronic bronchitis?
Acute bronchitis is a viral infection of the bronchi that results in a productive cough for 3-4 weeks and subsides totally and permanently. Chronic bronchitis falls into the category of COPD or chronic obstructive lung diseases and is manifest by chronic productive cough present at least 3-4 months out of the year. Often caused by smoking this is generally reflective of permanent damage to your lungs and may progress to the point where you have shortness of breath limiting your activities.
