What is the difference between active and passive bus topology?
You always have to remember that active anything means that there’s some type of query or signal generated from the source (or equipment). Active RFID means that the RFID tag itself has power and is capable of sending out signals. Active surveillance scanning means that you are sending out signals to detect activity or motion. Passive means that is picks up on whatever’s there without injecting anything back. A passive RFID tag does nothing without the signal applied by the scanner. A passive surveillance system would be watching the camera to see when someone enters the building, etc. So, active bus topology is when the equipment is responsible for regenerating and sending the signal on to the other ports. This is the example of a switch where it regenerates the signal to go across the other segments. Passive bus is when the computers simply splits the signal to multiple ports and is not responsible for any regeneration of it. An example is a hub.
