What is the difference between abridged and unabridged?
Although rare outside of Reader’s Digest’s practice of printing abridged versions of popular books in its magazine, an abridged version of a book is a condensed or simplified version. More common is an abridged version of a book developed for narration. The narration is turned into what’s commonly sold as a book-on-tape or audiobook. The unabridged version would be the full work, exactly as the original author had written it. Usually a book will be labeled “unabridged” when there is also an abridged version also available. This way, a person can differentiate between the two versions. Sources: http://en.wikipedia.
