What is the difference between AAT (Apple Advanced Typography) and OpenType?
Both of these are extensions to the basic TrueType font which can contain information for laying out complex scripts (like Arabic or Indic scripts) as well as support for glyph variants and other aspects of fine typography. They use totally different internal formats for the more complex aspects of this task, formats which have different expressive powers so that neither format can be converted to the other without the possibility for some loss of information.
