What is the difference between a virus and a trojan?
Both can disable your system quite easily, the difference is in how they do it. A virus is a snippet of assembly code which replicates itself automatically, usually adding itself onto your system files and memory, infecting any program you run afterwards until it is removed. A virus can infect your system when you run a program which has the virus code embedded in it already. Contrary to popular belief, you CAN NOT catch a virus by simply reading an e-mail called “Pen Pals”, “Good Times”, or any other such nonsense. The only way to catch a virus by e-mail is if you download an attached file which is infected with a virus and run it. A trojan (named for the horse) is a program specifically designed to erase or corrupt sections of your hard drive, which comes disguised as some useful program or utility…thereby enticing you to run it and screw up your own system. The best way to avoid these is to be very careful about who you recieve programs from. Anything purchased in a store is proba
