A. The majority of electrical components used in power generators manufactured in the USA are UL listed or rated. Breakers, switches, motors, wire, and even the generator system are almost always UL rated and carry the UL logo. There are some imports and even some small generator packagers who have utilized some non-UL listed components for gensets or ATS panels being exported. Some of these gensets have apparently made there way into some USA markets. To help reduce this potential problem UL Laboratories has promulgated a new generator system rating (UL2200) which some States, Counties, and Cities have adopted. This new UL rating requires that the generator system as a unit, not just the components, be UL tested and rated. The net effect is that a majority of UL2200 rated generators are the same as before the UL2200 requirement with few exception but are more expensive because of the testing for each different size and model by UL Labs.
