The U value takes into account all constructional elements and thermal bridges and can only be derived by calculation. The “R” value or thermal resistance of a product does not take into account anything other than the thickness and thermal conductivity (Lambda value), it can be used as a means of comparison of thermal resistance for products of differing lambda values and thickness.
