Simply put, a Turn-Based game lasts for days or weeks before a winner is declared, and not all players are online at the same time either as they play a number of Turns before they have to wait for these to regenerate (daily). You can enter these at any time after start too. The RTS variety will last less than 2 hours in general, all players start at the same time and are all online at the same time.
