What is the difference between a TripStop Joint and a steel Doweled joint?

A. A TripStop joint is designed to hinge and transfer load whereas a steel Doweled joint is designed to go in and out, assuming the steel Dowels have been installed correctly, and thus transfer load. If sufficient load is applied to a steel Dowel the Dowel will bend and no longer be able to go in and out. In other words the joint will lock up. Or the concrete will Spall causing joint failure. Water will also enter the joint and corrode further increasing the chance of joint failure due to rust expanding and thus exploding the concrete. Q8. Does the concrete need to be vibrated to make TripStop work? A. No assuming good quality concrete is used. That is if at least 25 MPA with correct Slump and the concrete is worked around the joint as one does with other types of joints like Dowels or Key joints. There are also self compacting concretes available. Still good engineering practice specifies concrete to be vibrated as vibrating takes out the air bubbles making the end product [ar 30%] st
