What is the difference between a Trailer, a Mobile home, a Modular home, and a Manufactured Home?

A. This is a short history: 1. TRAILER Trailers were made to be pulled behind a car or truck. They were built lightweight like cars and had the same expected life of a car, approx.. 15 years. 2. MOBILE HOME Mobile Homes were also built like cars with light weight paneling for walls and 2x2s instead of 2x4s in the walls. In the earlier Mobile Homes the exterior was aluminum. Later models made in the 1980s started to have wood paneling as exteriors instead of aluminum. 3. MODULAR HOME Modular homes were partially constructed at the factory. Areas such as the baths and kitchen would be made at the factory, and then the rest of the home was constructed on site. This is still a common type of construction today. Sometimes the walls are paneling, sometimes sheetrock and plaster. 4. MANUFACTURED HOME The manufactured home is made in the factory on jigs in sections. The sections are attached together on site. Depending on the manufacturer, the home may still have paneling for walls. In upscale
