What is the difference between a string quartet or string trio? Will I hear a difference?

The instrumentation for a string quartet is 2 violins, viola and cello. A string trio can either be violin, viola, cello or 2 violins and cello. When we perform as a trio we usually choose violin, viola and cello so that the client still gets all of the instruments. The major difference is that most traditional wedding music has been written for quartet and has been arranged for trio. You have most likely heard pieces as the quartet version. The trio arrangements are beautiful but have less depth and harmony. Listening samples of a trio will be recorded soon.
