What is the difference between a store card offered in department stores, and a credit card?

A store card is used in a particular store and usually can only be used there and their affiliated companies. A credit card is usually usable everywhere. My thoughts on store cards depend on what they offer as discounts. I don’t particularly like store cards, I think their interest rates can be very high but if you use them sensibly for the offers and pay them off at the end of each month in full, then they are ok.
