What is the difference between a stock cabinet and a custom cabinet?

0

75% of cabinets installed in most homes are stock cabinets. In fact the cabinets that are bought from home improvement stores are stock. So what is the difference? Stock cabinets are cabinets that come in predetermined sizes to make up a kitchen or bath, usually using fillers and molding to make up the gaps and spaces between cabinets. Custom cabinets are made to the exact size of your kitchen or bath and contain less gaps and do not require the use of fillers. For instance say you need a 72″ cabinets. With a stock cabinet this would usually be made of two 36″ cabinets attached together whereas a custom cabinet will be a single 40″ cabinet built to spec. Most custom cabinets now can cost the same or less than stock cabinets purchased from big box stores and other outlets.
