What is the difference between a standby and a portable generator?
• Standby generators are usually permanently or semipermanently mounted to a pad and wired into a home or business’ electrical system. An automatic transfer switch is used to turn the generator on in the event of a power failure and to supply selected circuits in the system. A portable generator uses a manual transfer switch which has to be turned on when the power goes out.
