A standard filter will prevent particles from getting into the air. The HEPA filter will trap particles as small as .3 microns. The standard filter is not a certified HEPA filter. In order for a filter to be rated as type A certified HEPA filter, it must pass very strict government standards to be qualified as a true HEPA filter. Type A HEPA Filters are individually tested according to U.S. Military Standard 282 (MIL-STD-282) and individually certified and labeled with specific test results. Each filter exceeds a minimum efficiency of 99.97% at a particle size of 0.3 microns, with less than 1 inch drop of air pressure. Testing is conducted at 100 CFM for 16″ filters and 75 CFM 14″ filters.
