What is the difference between a stallion and a gelding?
The difference is the surgery that removes the testicles of the male horse. A stallion is one that has not had the surgery and the gelding is one that has had the surgery. Occationally the surgery alone is not enough to remove the stallion like behaviors from the horse, which are primarily driven from hormones. Under rare circumstances a third testicle can be up near the prostate, and an additional surgery will be required to remove that testice to make the stallion completely sterile and a “gelding”.
