What is the difference between a soft quota and a hard quota?
Soft quotas are set to a smaller size than your actual quota to serve as a warning point that your operating system or applications can use to help prevent data loss. You can still write to the disk. A hard quota is the maximum amount of storage you can use on the disk. The file server will not allow you to write more data to the disk once your hard quota is met, which can cause loss of data if you attempt to exceed the hard quota.
