What is the difference between a social security number and an ITIN and how do I obtain one?
A social security number is issued by the Social Security Administration and can only be obtained by US citizens or non-resident alien individuals who have been issued proper working visas such as an H1-B, F-1 or J-1. To obtain a SS Number, there is a local office on Elm Street in Davis Square or you can contact them at 1-800-722-1213. They will provide you with the necessary requirements to obtain a SS Number.
