What is the difference between a serial and parallel port connection?

0

The parallel connection goes to an LPT port, which transmits eight bits at a time over eight separate wires. In principal, that makes it seven times faster than a serial connection, which has only a single wire to transmit data.

Thanks, Bruce >> A serial port is a single xmit/rcv port with a maximum data rate of 115Kbs. A parallel port is basically an external parallel data bus. It is substantially faster than a seral port and does not have a specific baud rate. A bigger pipe…. I have never tried to run a parallel port 80 feet. If you want to give it a try, use a shielded, twisted-pair cable.
