What is the difference between a semi hollow body and hollow body guitar?

Generally, a semi hollow body guitar is not as thick in the body as a hollow body guitar. Both are hollow on the inside like acoustic guitars are and they usually have two”f” shaped holes cut into the top wood of the guitar. OTOH, with solid body guitars like Stratocasters or Les Pauls, the body is made of a solid chunk of wood. Hollow body guitars are usually used mostly for playing jazz. A semi hollow body guitar will have a block or a solid piece of wood running through the middle on the inside to give it a more hefty feel. Because of the block, when you crank up a semi hollow body guitar it won’t feed back like a hollow body guitar will. Hollow body guitars are notorious for feedback. Generally, semi hollow body guitars are better for rock’n’roll because you can play them louder and with gain. I have a Epiphone Dot Deluxe semi hollow body guitar. I paid about $400 for it and got a nice hardshell case with it. Eventually, I’m going to put Gibson ’57 pickups on it for about $200 more
