What is the difference between a sea plane & a flying boat?
Both previous answers are flat wrong. A seaplane is any airplane that is capable of landing only on water. If it can also land on a runway, it is properly called an amphibian. A seaplane can be either a flying boat or a float plane. A flying boat is built around a single hull that serves as the airplane’s fuselage and also floats and maneuvers on water. A float plane is an ordinary airplane equipped with streamlined floats instead of wheels. So there is such thing as a flying boat, though they are not common nowadays, and both types are airplanes, not boats. For lots of information including pictures, run an internet search on “seaplane” and one on “flying boat,” and one on “float plane.” Have fun!
