WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A ROUTER AND AN ACCESS POINT?

0

Access Point converts signal from the antenna, and sends it to a router or directly to the motherboard. Router can not act like AP. But, they are similar… Router is usually using as a connection splitter… Which, many AP’s can’t do that… So, connection splitter… You have on it; 1 WAN Port – Which leads to AP 4 (or more) LAN Ports – Which you can connect your PC with other… And other PC’s which are connected with you, they are using a part of your connection… Also, you can see entire HDD on the other PC (LAN Connection), if, the whole HDD is marked for Sharing.

A router can also be an access point if wireless enabled and more typical of a home network – not corporate. Access point generally refers to wireless access, while a router refers to a device that will route packets on a network using ethernet (cable).
