What is the difference between a round front and an elongated water closet?

Generally, round front water closet models have a smaller length bowl and are ideal for bathrooms with limited space. Elongated water closet models have a longer bowl and may be more comfortable to some. To determine if your water closet is a round front or an elongated model, measure the distance from a line visually drawn between the centers of the seat bolt holes (used to connect the seat to the bowl) to the front rim of the water closet. If it measures approximately 16 ½” your toilet is a round front. If it measures approximately 18 ½”, it is an elongated model.
