What is the difference between a research assistant and a co-investigator?

0

A. A co-investigator shares responsiblity with the Primary Investigator for the design/conduct of the study and/or decision-making capacity for the way the study is conducted, while a research assistant is merely carrying out duties, as assigned by the Primary or co-investigators. All investigators/assistants are required to complete the CITI training, but proof of CITI training for research assistants should be maintained by the PI, and need not be submitted to the Office of Research Compliance.
