What is the difference between a Protocol Translator, a Data Concentrator, and a Gateway?

0

All these functions are fully supported by all SMP Gateway models. A Protocol Translator performs data acquisition from one device and then redistributes the information to one control center using a different protocol (one to one interface). A Data Concentrator performs data acquisition from many devices – using one or many different protocols – and then redistributes the information to one control center (one to many interface). A Gateway acquires the data from many devices (like a Data Concentrator), but redistributes the information to many control centers using various protocols (many to many interface). For each type of application, a variety of communication links may be used – RS-232, RS-422, RS-485 in multi-drop configuration, or Ethernet.
