What is the difference between a PPO and HMO?
A Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) is a network of hospitals and physicians that the insurance carriers have negotiated with for their services to the policyholders. The Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) generally requires the plan member to go to certain plan providers. Visits to no-plan providers are not permitted except for emergencies.
