What is the difference between a porcelain laminate veneer and a crown or cap?

Porcelain laminate veneers are primarily used to cover the front (aesthetic side) and edge of your front teeth. The back side of the tooth is left untouched. Full crowns or caps cover the entire tooth. Laminate veneers are an ideal aesthetic solution when the tooth or teeth have minimal restorations or wear. Both restorations are bonded to your tooth but there are limitations to each. For example, a laminate veneer is not recommended for posterior molar teeth because of the excessive forces of chewing and aesthetics is less of a concern in the back of the mouth. Don’t hesitate to ask our office to determine which is best for you.
