What is the difference between a physical therapist, physical therapist assistant and a physical therapist aide?
A physical therapist (PT) is a graduate of an accredited physical therapy program, who has passed a board examination and maintains a license to practice physical therapy in their respective state. A physical therapist assistant (PTA) is a graduate of an accredited physical therapy assistant program, who has passed a board examination and maintains a license in their respective state. A physical therapist aide is an individual who has completed 40+ hours of on the job training to assist with the application of some modalities, stretching and strengthening programs. Your PT will complete your evaluation and develop a plan of care specific to your needs. Our PTAs may help your PT in executing your treatment plan with further support from our PT aides. Your PT will be communicating with your physician and making any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan.
