What is the difference between a PDA, a Blackberry and a Smartphone?
Today, there is not much of a difference between a PDA, a Blackberry and a Smartphone. In the past, a PDA usually referred to a handheld computer that used either a Palm or Pocket PC operating system. Meanwhile, a Blackberry used different technology altogether (Mobitex and GPRS networks) and performed functions that basically only suited a business environment (eg. Email applications, calendaring and an address book). The Blackberry was and is still marketed and sold by a Canadian-based company called Research in Motion (RIM). A Smartphone was considered any handheld device that integrates the basic PDA functions with a mobile phone in one device. Today, the lines are even more blurred between the PDA, Blackberry and Smartphone. Each device is becoming more like its competition by having many of the same functions. In some cases, technology is being shared and adopted between companies in hope of creating the best all-in-one device.
